Blue Jays’ George Springer returns to lineup as DH in opener vs. Red Sox

George Springer is the designated hitter and will be leading off when the Toronto Blue Jays open a three-game series in Boston Tuesday.

It’s just the fifth start in August for Springer, who has been battling elbow and knee injuries. He did pinch-hit in Sunday’s loss to the Yankees.

The 32-year-old outfielder has been an impact bat for the Jays when healthy, hitting .269/.345/.479 with 18 home runs in 94 games.

Defensively, Jackie Bradley Jr. will start at centrefield, his first game back in Boston since being released by the Red Sox on Aug. 4.
